Event description
So think for a second... what do you know about Spain? paella, siesta, flamenco and bullfighting, isn't it? But have you ever heard the words patxarán, fabada, aurresku, orujo, gaiteros or sidra? Get rid of clichés once and for all, you are better than that!

You have to notice that there’s something else out of the blue: a place where Spain looks different, where the Atlantic Ocean becomes a different sea, where there’s less sun but more green, and where mountain peaks can almost touch the sea shore: the Northern Coast.

We propose you an incredible journey along almost 300 km of awesome coasts and stunning inlands, visiting the Basque Country, Cantabria and the Principality of Asturias and discovering the places where Spain and the language spoken by more than 500 million people all over the world were born. A journey surrounded by nature, history, culture, sports and lots of action.

3 antennae, 3 regions, 3 greens and a common blue: the Cantabric Sea.

Are you ready to spend 18 unforgettable days of adventures travelling across the Northern Coast together with other 25 aegeeans?

We are looking for a simple answer: “challenge accepted”.
Places visited
Basque Country
The Basque Country will be the departure point of this incredible experience by the north shore of Spain. Breathe, you will feel at home. Fill your spirit looking how the cliffs try to split the wild sea that borders our shore and challenge its strength by riding the waves in one of the most famous surf sports.
During our trip you will get to know our inner side through history, how Bilbao has been transformed in the past decades from a grey and a heavy industrialized area that set up as one of the economical forces of the country, to the modern and bright city that is today. You will also discover the peculiarities of our regional language, one of the most ancients in Europe, and let yourself go with some incredible stories of the basque folklore. In short, start the journey across the green lands: you will never expect, you will never forget.
Cantabria
Following the seashore we will reach Cantabria, our plenty of history second destination. Cantabria is the richest place on earth on prehistoric sites, and has a long and rich history, from celtic settlements to the roman occupation.
The capital of the region, Santander, is situated at the so-called “most beautiful bay of Spain” and has numerous beaches. At one of them, we’ll watch fireworks at the main festivals of the city, that also include concerts, cultural shows, food and crowds.
There are more than 50 white-sanded-beaches in this beautiful region, but also amazing mountains, including Picos de Europa National Park, the second most visited in Spain, and that we will visit in order enjoy its beauty and natural surroundings.
We’ll also visit some beautiful villages, such as Santillana del Mar and Comillas, noted for their medieval, Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings, including the one created by the renowned artist Antoni gaudí.
And last but not least, we will discover the secrets of the cantabrian gastronomy... and we will taste some of the many varieties of Orujo, the local grape liquor.
Principality of Asturias
The Principality Of Asturias is the last region we'll visit in this awesome journey across the Northren Coast. Known as the cradle of Spain due to the Battle of Covadonga —where the reconquest of the country begun in 722—, Asturias is also famous by the Sidra (cider) and the special way it is poured. For asturian people Sidra is not just a drink, but a religion, as you will discover attending to some asturian traditional festivals. You'll also visit Gijón, known as the capital of the green coast and largest city in the region, but also Oviedo —the capital of the Principality, full of ancient and beautiful places— and some other stunning places where you'll also practise outdoor sports... in the second most mountainous region of Europe.
