Event description
Even though it is still cold and windy outside, we are already planning a hot summer university for you! This year AEGEE-Utrecht, AEGEE-Enschede and AEGEE-Köln work together to show you the real Netherlands and Germany.

You might already have an opinion about religion, sexuality and politics, but have you ever looked across the border? You will visit the most important political town in the Netherlands, visit the gay bars in Amsterdam, see the world of the homeless, discuss religion and much more.

The focus is on the difference between conservative and liberal views. How strict are the Netherlands and Germany, or how easy in the rules, in comparison to yourself or your country? To really meet the citizens and see the countryside, you will be required to hitchhike between the three towns.

Learn, be surprised, meet new friends, visit new towns and have fun! Don’t worry; the nightlife will also be thoroughly explored.
Places visited
Enschede
Enschede is the vibrant cosmopolitan heart of the eastern Netherlands. The town is full of life and movement; it’s buoyant, enterprising and energetic. It combines village and town life in its own special way and has plenty of room – both literally and figuratively – for a high quality of life for everybody. The town offers superb facilities, a lively centre, and fascinating neighbourhoods. Get to know Enschede and discover the attractions of a town that has (virtually) everything.

Facts & figures
-About 157,000 inhabitants (a quarter of the population of the Twente region
-Enschede district is made up of Enschede town and the villages Boekelo, Glanerbrug and Lonneker
-The region flourished – particularly with the textile industry in the early 20th century; since then it has become more of a service town
-Central position in the Dutch-German Euregio
-Twinned with Palo Alto (USA) and Dalian (China)
Utrecht
Utrecht is the 4th largest city in The Netherlands and located in the middle of the country. It was the religious center of the Netherlands since the eighth century, and one of the most important Dutch cities form the Middle Ages until the Dutch Golden Age. This city has a beautiful medieval city center surrounded by canals. Also, it hosts the second largest university of The Netherlands: Utrecht University. This city with its vibrant cultural life and a vast student population is waiting for some AEGEEans to come and explore all it has to offer.
Köln
Cologne, best known for karneval, kölsch and culture, is the stronghold of diversity and liberalism in Germany. Being located next to the Rhine, it has a vibrant art scene and definitely a wide range of night life possibilities to discover.
