Event description
We are all crazy and sick of the modern way of living, the hurry, the superficiality, the exaggerated materialism, the lack of meaning in our lives. Well, this summer, AEGEE-Chisinau and AEGEE-Iasi will drive you back in time, closer to our roots. We will experience together a world that hasn't changed from centuries ago, a world of living traditions, a world of profound connection to the nature, spirituality and old beliefs, many dating since before Christianity.

You won’t be just a spectator, you will participate in the making of diverse handicrafts like pottery, carpentry, basketry, weaving and you will learn the secret of the Moldavian traditional dances, music, cuisine and all the little things that the peasants produce in their own households and farms. You will be convinced about their simple and sustainable way of living, consuming what they produce and maybe that’s why they are such warm and welcoming hosts; this will transform our TSU in a very green one. You will also enjoy spectacular landscapes and unique cultural monuments, like Orheiul Vechi, Bucovina UNESCO monasteries, and more. You really won’t have time to get bored as there are many activities waiting for you.

We will travel more than a thousand kilometres to show you how this traditional culture is creating connections between countries and communities and you will decide yourself if the Rep. of Moldova belongs or not to the big European family. We will travel through space but also through time, because Moldova (the Rep. of Moldova and the Romanian part of Moldova) is still a place where history and legend merge together.

Surely you heard the song “Back to USSR”. Well, we are going to make it reality! A step back in time to the soviet era awaits all who venture across the disputed border of the breakaway territory, Transnistria, where you will be greeted with rows of grey housing blocs, statues of Lenin, soviet style monuments, streets named after Karl Marx and more hammers than you could shake a sickle at.

This will be a wonderful TSU where old and new will collide because we will also spend some interesting time in the cities of Chisinau and Iasi, we will party a lot and we will enjoy some more modern sports and fun memorable activities like rafting, zip line, kite flying and more.

Come and explore with us our realm of living traditions, come as a traveler and leave as a friend! :)
Places visited
Chisinau
The capital of Rep. of Moldova, it is considered to be one of the greenest cities in Europe. There are many parks in the city and the trees are placed on almost every street. Monuments, museums, and other touristical attractions wait to be seen in the city. Chisinau's nightlife is very lively and one of the main draws to the city, we will surely enjoy it in our TSU.
Tiraspol
It is the second largest city in Moldova and is the capital and administrative centre of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (Transnistria). Many consider Transnistria an area where time stopped more than 20 years ago, in the soviet era.
Iasi
It was the capital of historic Moldova between 1564 and 1859. Famous in Romania and also regionally for it's romantic air and rich cultural history it was also called since the creation of modern Romania, the cultural capital of Romania. Most of Romania's classic artists, poets, writers lived in this beautiful city and it is today one of the hotest spots for cultural and artistic expression. The Universities here are the top universities in Romania and well known outside the borders. Just a simple walk on Steven the Great Bd., Copou Bd. will make our time in Iasi unforgetable.
Neamt County
Neamţ county is known as the region with the most monasteries to be found per square kilometer in the world. In the western part, there are mountains, the Eastern Carpathians, with heights of over 1800m and the impressive peak of Mount Ceahlău that offers impressive sights. The county is host to two of Romania's 9 national parks: Ceahlău Massif and Vânători-Neamţ Natural Park. A place where nature and the countryside offers amazing sceneries and abundant biodiversity.
Suceava County
Also known as Bucovina, the county has an impressive history and concentrates a huge number of cultural and natural monuments. Like the Neamt county, it is famos for it's touristical resorts and the living traditions, most of the population living in rural areas. It is one of the top touristical attractions in Romania.
