Event description
Travelling through the lowlands on a bicycle, while visiting the best places the south of the Netherlands has to offer, and learning what you can do to save the environment. That’s what it is all about in our Travelling Summer University!

We will start in Tilburg, where the largest funfair of the Netherlands is about to begin, accompanied by Pink Monday. From Tilburg we will also make a day trip to our capital Amsterdam by train, the worldwide known city of canals, museums, coffee shops and the red light district.
After that, we hope you are in good shape, because we will travel to Eindhoven like Dutch people do: by bicycle! In Eindhoven, the largest city of the Southern Netherlands, you will find out what the “smartest region of the world” has to offer you! We will visit an eco-farm, explore the “city of light” and see one of the longest pub streets: Stratumseind.
After that, we hop on our bikes again, the journey down south continues! We will see the countryside of Limburg, the southernmost province of the Netherlands, and reach the first hills in our otherwise flat country. After exploring the city of Roermond, we will end up in the capital of Limburg; Maastricht. In this beautiful city, split up in two by the river Maas (Meuse), we will decent deep into the earth, to see the caves, which are actually stone mines. Here we shall conclude a hopefully awesome Travel Summer University!

You will be spending a lot of time on a bicycle, but don’t worry; you’ll grow to love it! And you will have plenty of time to get to know people, look around and fully enjoy the experience!
Places visited
Tilburg
Historically mostly known for its textile industry, now known as a modern city. Apart from its renowned music venue 013, it is also known for its exuberant funfair. The city is surrounded by beautiful nature like the Loonse and Drunense Duinen.
Amsterdam
The Dutch capital Amsterdam is popular by tourists all over the world. Notorious for its red light district and its abundance of coffee shops, it is also famous for its many canals and museums. This multicultural city is one of the most diverse in the world.
Eindhoven
Eindhoven is the biggest city of the southern Netherlands. In the Dutch “city of light”, most famous for the Philips Company and its football club PSV, you can still taste the culture of a village. Furthermore is it known for its lively cultural scene and longest pub street “Stratumseind”. In 2011, Eindhoven was named the “Smartest Region in the World” by the Intelligent Community Forum.
Roermond
Roermond is a small city, but it has an extensive city center, that has been elected the best of the Netherlands in 2009. Apart from the city center, it has an Outlet Center, Retail Park and a boulevard of furniture stores. Therefore, it is visited by people all over the (international) region for all kinds of shopping needs. It is also surrounded by lots of small lakes in the river “Maas”, creating popular spots for water sports and boats. It also has a rich history as a Hanseatic city, which is nowadays still visible.
Maastricht
Maastricht is one of the oldest cities of the Netherlands, and is even part of the Most Ancient European Towns Network. It is known as a city of history, culture, folklore and education. It has a variety of museums, picturesque squares, romantic streets and historical buildings. Its city center is a great place for shopping. It is also the place of birth for André Rieu, founder and conductor of the world famous modern classical Johann Strauss Orchestra. It is of course also the city where the Maastricht Treaty is signed.
