Examples

Example 1:

Aim :     Inform about enviromentally friendly living conditions.

Action : Outdoor Activities + Questionnaires

Programme :

Gather all the participants in the city centre .

Ask them to come with a  bicycle and cycle to the university.

After the ride , give them questionnaires in order to test their environmental awareness or   play a quiz (described before )

End you day with a thematic party („bring your own cup”, special dress-codes etc)

Example 2:

Aim : Awareness, observation, take action, participate in the dialogue

Action: Mini conference + photo exhibition

Programme :

Come in touch with Environmentalists and invite them to have a lecture in your university .

Invite more than one and pick a subject of your interest.

2 lectures and afterwards 2 interactive workshops .

At the end make the official opening of the photo exhibition in your university hall, or at the canteen (make sure than the exhibition will remain there for more than a week )

Make a small closing ceremony and give some awards to the best photographs .

Example 3 :

Aim : Reduce the ecological impact of your university

Action : Forum Theatre or Debate + outdoor activities

Programme :

Get in touch with your dean or a professor of your university . Explain  your initiative and start organising the day . You need to attract your colleagues so make something extraordinary new for them .

Forum Theatre always helps in this . Check the file with activities .

In case that Forum Theatre is not possible for you , you can take the other interactive option. Debate .

Make an open debate in an open space , so everyone can come and watch. Demonstarte one of the most important issues in terms of envirnment. Human awareness and consience.

Then make the opening for the recycling litter bins in the yiard of the university , inaugurate the organic products into canteen and the  energy saving light bulbs into lecture rooms .

Example 4 :

Aim: Find out sustainable ways of travelling

Action : Contest

Programme :

"From ________ to _________, do it sustainable!!!"

  1. At the beginning of the contest you could give them some information, like for example:

Travelling by…

  1. CAR

  • Amount of CO2 sent off  :  150g./km.
  • Time spent :  0.5 min/km  (120 Km/h)
  • Positive side :  you reach places faster
  • Negative side :  get bored if you are alone, you cannot drink, and you should not fell asleep. Pollutes the environment the most

  1. TRAIN
  • Amount of CO2 sent off : 35g./km.
  • Time spent : 0.6 min/km  (100 Km/h)
  • Positive side : you can travel with a lot of friends, you can meet new people , you can sleep, read, watch a film…you can drink before taking a train.
  • Negative side :  sometimes expensive, sometimes  slow.

  1. BUS
  • Amount of CO2 sent off  : 30g/km
  • Time spent  :  0.75 min/km (80 Km/h)
  • Positive side :  you can go with a lot of friends, you can meet new people  you can sleep, read, watch a film…you can drink before taking a bus.
  • Negative side :  buses are  slow.

  1. BIKE
  • Amount of CO2 sent off : 1.11g/km (we sent 20g CO2/h off by breathing, and riding a bike the average speed is 18km/h if you’re not a professional. But we have to breathe! And is not considered as contamination).
  • Time spent : 3.33 min/km (18Km/h)
  • Positive side : exercise, you can go with  friends
  • Negative side :  most of places no  bicycle paths.

  1. PLANE
  • Amount of CO2 sent off : 180g./km
  • Time spent : 0.09 min/km (650km/h)
  • Positive side : you reach your destination really soon.
  • Negative side :  expensive,  weight limitations in your luggage and in your hand luggage, airports use to be far from the cities, so you spend a lot of time going there, and also you have to be there a long time before, so finally you spend a lot of time. Pollutes the most

  1. WALKING
  • Amount of CO2 sent off : 5g./h (but, again, we have to breathe)
  • Time spent : 15 min/km (4 km/h)
  • Positive side : exercise, you can go with someone.
  • Negative side : no time for walking

  1. So, at the end of their trip they can +/- calculate the impact level of each trip by measuring the CO2 sent off, and know who the winner is.

Of course, they can mix the ways of transport!

  1. The prize could be a pair of trendy ‘sustainable trainers’ for each person, so they would be encouraged to walk more :p.

Perhaps you can look if any sports shop could give you the trainers ,if you wear a T- shirt with its logo, or if you do some promotion of the shop…

These are Examples!!!!

Use your imagination and you can make your Day even more interesting !

Enjoy !
