The project Destination Europe considers the treatment of migrants at the borders of South European countries as a huge violation of human rights, but is also concerned with the enormous impact that this kind of migration has on local communities around the Mediterranean. In order to get a better overview of the situation, we want to organize a study visit to Malta. Here, we want to investigate the role migration issues play in Malta nowadays, but also see the situation of Malta in a broader (European / Mediterranean) context.
During this study visit we will lay a special emphasis on the role of youth work and youth policies that are concerned or entangled with migration in one way or the other. We will, for example, visit different (youth) NGO's that are involved with migrants, and have a look at the work they do. But we will also visit migrants' detention centres and interview members of the Maltese local communities about the migration issue. Furthermore, there will be participants from the whole Euro-Mediterranean region in order to get a multi-perspective view on the situation. Through specific workshops and other activities, we want to make the participants aware of their role as a European citizen in this process. At the end of the study visit, proposals and ideas will be gathered in order to make the follow-up of the study visit as effective as possible.

Writing a position paper for (local/national/regional) governments and other decision-making structures
Publication of the results on the website of the project and during statutory events of AEGEE, but also through publications in local newspapers and magazines
Results
As a result of the continuous partnerships between the participants of the study visit, new activities and projects will be designed that are aimed to tackle the situation at hand. One can think of organizing a conference, youth-exchange, photo exhibition or voluntary service initiatives.
More awareness on the situation within different bodies of AEGEE, among the members of the partner organisations involved, among stakeholders and decision-makers on the governmental level, and among a wider public through magazine and newspaper articles.
