Ethnic Prejudices and Discrimination

In this paper, I have chosen a sociological perspective, in the belief that the repercussions of the prejudice and stereotypes on society are an exceptionally significant subject.

The most recent example of prejudice has been in Kosovo between Kosovo Albanians and the Serbs. One of the important facts concerning Serbian-Albanian relationships deals with mutual perception and public opinion polls in Kosovo.

This analysis is based on six researches done between 1966 and 1998 by both Serbian and Albanian sociologists. The prejudice, as indeed discrimination itself, are producing changes which can be analyzed at several levels. At : (1) the micro level (2) the middle level (3) the macro level. All three levels include different examples concerning relationships, actions, way of thinking between Albanians and Serbs on individual, group and community setting.

The examples could be specified through different strategies of Albanian and Serbian (a) Self - perception and its interpretation; (b) Perception of the other; (c) Perception of relationship.
