Laurie Johnston is a Masters of Divinity candidate at Harvard Divinity School, focusing on religion and conflict. Originally from Washington, D.C., she earned an Interdisciplinary B.A. with distinction from the University of Virginia in 1997, where she was a Jefferson Scholar. At Harvard, she has founded the Committee on Religion and International Relations at the Divinity School.

She has also been actively involved in the Restorative Justice movement in Boston. She recently organized a conference in Switzerland on "Religious Leadership After Conflict" for theology students from throughout the former Yugoslavia, under the auspices of the Boston Theological Institute
