VeguetaVegueta was the founding nucleus of the city, the place where in 1478 the troops of the conqueror Juan Rejón erected the Real de las Palmas, the name that would be received from the palm trees that rose in the place. It was the first Castilian site in the Atlantic, as well as the place where the Crown of Castile initiated the Conquest of the Canary Islands. The neighborhood owes its name to the fertile plain that extended around the Real de las Palmas, called "La Vegueta de Santa Ana".
