Pico de las nieves Is the highest peak of the island of Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain. Its height is 1,949 metres (6,394 ft) above sea level. The origin is volcanic (stratovolcano). On its slopes, Canary Islands Pine was reintroduced in the 1950s. It is the highest elevation of the province of Las Palmas and the third highest mountain in the Canary Islands. Of the other Canary Islands, only Tenerife and La Palma have higher peaks.
VeguetaVegueta was the founding nucleus of the city, the place where in 1478 the troops of the conqueror Juan Rejón erected the Real de las Palmas, the name that would be received from the palm trees that rose in the place. It was the first Castilian site in the Atlantic, as well as the place where the Crown of Castile initiated the Conquest of the Canary Islands.
The neighborhood owes its name to the fertile plain that extended around the Real de las Palmas, called "La Vegueta de Santa Ana". From then on it would be the center of political, religious and administrative life on the island.
