Imagine a place where distances are ethereal, where you can hike at an ancient mountain pass in the morning, taste the glorious and famous Asturian gastronomy (that by the way has nothing to do with paella and sangria) at midday and surf the Cantabric sea waves in the afternoon, get some relax at some of the best beaches in the world and then kayaking down the great Sella river observing the majesty of natural forests.
But moving around this legendary land is not all you’ll do. At some point you’ll stand static… learning how to pour from above your head (yes, you’ve read it correctly) a glass of Sidra, our most typical drink which you’ll fall in love with in awesome parties and celtic festivals (did you know we have bagpipers in here?). At the end of the day, if there’s something we are not that different with the rest of Spain is in our inner party-animal.
And that’s not all, because even though a huge part of our SU will be about adventure, sports and getting in touch with the nature we’ll have time to discover the Asturian traditions, visit the most representative cities (such as Oviedo, Avilés, Gijón) and breathtaking villages with hidden treasures, but also we have a grand finale planned. We want you to expand your horizons and discover the beauty of León, Asturias’ southern neighbour region, trough our one-day trip to the city in order to do some sightseeing and admire the jewels of our heritage from different perspectives. The beauty of its old town together with some rich local gastronomy will make it unforgettable!
All in all, “Guardians of the Paradise” is much more than a SU name. It is a movement with a clear philosophy: We believe in people. We believe in nature. We think good things are better when you share them. We believe that Asturias is a paradise and that everyone has the right to enjoy it. That is why we (and you! If you decide to come...) the guardians, will do everything necessary to make it so.
This is not Spain as clichés say. This won’t be a beach and sleep event. This is not a typical Summer University.
Exploring the Asturias' nature and discovering its unique cultural heritage through sport, gastronomy, and everything that makes a SU amazing
GijónKnown as the capital of the green coast, it is the largest city in Asturias. You'll get amazed by its breathtaking coastline and its activeness!
OviedoIt is the capital city of the Principality of Asturias and the administrative and commercial centre of the region. As Woody Allen once said: "Oviedo drives me crazy. Once I retire, Oviedo would be the place for it".
CovadongaWhere Spain was born! In 722 AD, Iberian Christians won a namesake battle over the Muslims in Covadonga. This was the first Christian victory in the Iberian Peninsula over the Arabs and Berbers invading from north Africa.
Picos de EuropaThe most beautiful part of the entire world. Too optimistic? Maybe, but it'll take your breath out once you hike between 2000m peaks in this mountainous region.
LeónOne of the oldest cities of Spain whose roots are deeply connected with Asturias, for they once belong to the same kingdom, back in the Medieval Ages. The beauty of its old town together with some rich local gastronomy will make it unforgettable!
