  • September 2004 workshpo at PM in Aachen

Have you seen the recent news on Islamic terroristattacks? Did you know that even a Muslim girl is forced to leave her headscarf at home when she wants to attend school in France? Do you think it is possible to follow your religion without curtailments and still have a successful career in Western societies? Did you know that even in the AEGEE network racist prejudices easily survive? There are still many questions and answers to find! Euro Islam is the theory of Islam in democratic structures, equal and peaceful co-existence between Muslims and all other religions. It is the theory of a modernized Islam. It is a way that many people already go, but still too many don't know anything about. So, if You miss more religious and cultural content on European or local level in AEGEE, than this is the possibility for You to change and improve it! In this workshop we will brainstorm, discuss and work on the concrete realisation of the EuroIslam project. If you or your antenna is interested in organizing an event in the framework of this project, you will get all the necessary help, knowledge and tools to organize a local or European level event together with the project team. If you feel experienced enough you are also more than welcome to join the main project team! With us you can work in an international team, experience the excitement and fun and help to take the next steps towards a better world! This project is oneof the high-explosive and unique actions of AEGEE!

  • Spring 2004 workshop at PM in Wrozlav

Workshop at PM in Wrozlav (Poland) in Spring 2004: At the beginning there was a lively discussion caused by some provocative sentences like "Islam promotes violence!" or "Muslims only cause trouble and don't integrate!". It was very nice to see a lot of passion and enthusiasm when our members talked about their faith and life. After giving a little basic knowledge about the 3 world religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) the whole group brainstormed about the meaning of "Euro Islam". We discovered the differences between religion and tradition, the whole influence media has, but also the sometimes very obvious similarities in culture. Out of all these discussions and brainstorming the participants developed two different parts of the upcoming project. One part is more or less an external PR, which integrates knowledge of how to analyze media and ways of how to react on bad journalism in public media in a type of "Media School" event. The second part is based on cooperation with the CWG and local antennae. The idea of a Cultural Night ("EurOriental Night") linked with an information and discussion ("1001 questions to religious experts") event and some exchange between religious local communities/countries and AEGEE locals/bodies. • Summer 2003 workshop at PM in Magusa

Workshop at PM in Magusa (North Cyprus) in Summer 2003: Mutual Understanding is described as the following: ’We may continue to disagree but we can develop a certain level of trust’. This workshop aims to question whether the European Identity covers only Christianity or other religions had also contributed to its formation. Specifically, concerning the Muslim population living in Europe, we aim to focus onthe integration process of Islamic and European values. After years ofadaptation, European Muslims had developed a new way of life without compromising the needs of Islam. How peaceful is the situation and howcould it be improved? (Hakan Gumus)
