Debatess teams will compete in discussing topics related to the enlargement of the European Union. The competition enables young Europeans to improve their skills in political debating. Furthermore it gives the occasion to discuss and reflect thoroughly different opinions on the Enlargement process.

Standard teams of three speakers representing a given opinion play successive rounds of debates, with strict rules, specialised arbitration and a complex system of rating. More than just a game, the Debates trains participants to approach ideas from different points of view. By rule, they have to contest in a debate round what they just have asserted in the previous one. Of main concern are not persons but ideas.
